The Spine Society of West Bengal has been formed with the active participation of eminent spine surgeons of West Bengal and Kolkata with patronage from eminent international spine surgeons as a non political centre to create awareness of various nature for the benefit of the public, provide training to orthopedic and neurosurgeons who wish to update or learn various aspects of spine surgery, conduct courses, seminars and workshops to spread the knowledge and awareness of spine surgery among doctor or specialists and increase public awareness of various aspects of spinal problems affecting the society at large. Though it is based in Kolkata, the Society may work in any part of India as shall be decided by the Executive Committee.

is the pioneer in developing spine surgery as a separate subspecialty in this part of the country. He started his spine practice in 2003 after completing his spine training abroad and has completed about 8000 spine surgeries since then. His special interest is spinal deformities and cervical spine. He has extensive academic involvements in various spine related societies nationally and internationally. Currently, he is the President Elect of Association of Spine Surgeons of India and Chairman, WWC Subcommittee, Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). He represents India in the Board of Asia Pacific Spine Society (APSS) and Indo American Spine Alliance (IASA). He has nearly 50 publications in journals and book chapters and he is the Deputy Editor of Indian Spine Journal, which is an indexed journal dedicated to spinal studies.
